She walks between the worlds of winter and spring, and brings her light to both. We’ve long been captivated by the story of Persephone, the mythical figure who moves between the darkness of winter and the bloom of spring, bound to the turning of the seasons. Her story reminds us that life unfolds in cycles, and that winter, too, holds its own beauty—a time of rest, reflection, and gathering strength. Our Persephone is luminous and self-possessed — a woman who walks between worlds on her own terms, carrying her light with her. At the heart of this piece is Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s captivating 19th-century portrait Proserpine (the Roman name for Persephone), her calm, steady gaze and fiery hair glowing against a velvet night sky. We’ve framed her in silken drapery, tapestries, trailing ivy, and stars, creating a scene that is rich, romantic, and quietly commanding.
Layered throughout the print are symbolic elements drawn from antique art: 19th-century pomegranates and florals representing abundance and renewal, a watchful owl from an 1875 illustration symbolizing wisdom, and a hand-painted book evoking knowledge and the ongoing act of transformation. Woven into the banner beneath her is a timeless truth: and winter must yield to spring.
Solstice is a celebration of honouring every season we move through, and a reminder that even in the darkest hours, light returns, and we bloom again.
